Bedwas let a first half lead slip away as Trebanos stormed back to gain a deserved win on a mild afternoon.

The afternoon started well for Bedwas courtesy of Matty Bancroft’s boot as he landed a penalty from the halfway line.

Both sides lost control at crucial times but two further Bancroft penalties after 14 and 19 minutes put Bedwas in control.

Trebanos full back Tom Dew got his side on the scoreboard with a successful penalty goal after 26 minutes, but five minutes Bancroft notched his and Bedwas’ fourth penalty of the half.

Dew added a second penalty shortly before the half-time break to see the score at the interval Trebanos 6 Bedwas 12.

Bedwas replaced starting loose head prop Ben Drew with Liam Jenkins at the start of the second half.

The home side appeared determined in the second half and played with aggression and purpose. Fourteen minutes into the half they gained their reward as left winger Josh Ferriman crossed for a try, improved upon by Dew and the home side were ahead for the first time.

Bedwas made a host of substitutions with Owen Jones replacing, Rhys Morgans, Rhys Hutcherson on for Ollie Drake and Alec Jones on for Sam Davies.

Trebanos full back added a further penalty to increase his sides lead but Bedwas couldn’t break down a stubborn rear-guard and despite getting close the home line they came away with nothing.

On the contrary the home side increased their lead with a try out wide by replacement Matthew Jenkins which went unconverted.

Rhys Jones replaced Dale Rogers with eight minutes to play but there was no way back as Trebanos held on to claim the win.

Next Saturday Bedwas host Ystalyfera in the fourth group match in the WRU Challenge Plate, kick-off at 2-30pm.
