Youth Rugby returns to Bedwas RFC

Youth rugby is back at Bedwas RFC with the team set to play it’s first fixture this weekend when Newbridge RFC visit the Bridgefield.

There have been good numbers throughout preseason which is key to starting a youth team back up. It’s an exciting time for the boys and the club now has a clear pathway into senior rugby either through the highly successful Athletic squad or ultimately Steve Laws first team squad. Steve has been instrumental in establishing the team and continues to support the team on a weekly basis.

The coaching set up sees Matt Seamons and Gareth Pettit take over the backs with Chris Edwards, Julian Price and Mathew Pettit in charge of the forwards backed up by Christian Ferris. Their experience will be vital when the young Bedwas team take the field. An overseas tour to Canada is planned for two years’ time so there is a real buzz around the place. The coaching team is supported by Team Manager Enda Murphy.

Gareth Pettit said ‘I’m delighted to be part of the youth set up. I came through Bedwas youth myself and it is a privilege to give something back. I’m really looking forward to what the season brings.’

New players are always welcome to training which takes place Tuesday and Thursday at the Bridgefield 6pm to 7.15pm.
