Bedwas earned a bonus point win in the capital to extend their lead at the top of the Championship East table. Despite the emphatic look to the score the game itself never seemed to get going.

On a cool, overcast Cardiff afternoon both sides fought for early dominance, but it was Bedwas who claimed the first try of the afternoon as Tristan Kugler was on the end of a passing move across the field to touchdown in the right-hand corner. James Hallett’s conversion missed the target.

Defences were on top for the next fifteen minutes but with Rumney down to fourteen men due to the sinbinning of second row Laroche Bedwas immediately took advantage of the extra man. A catch and drive move from the Bedwas pack saw hooker Arwel Hughes claim a try, James Hallett added the extras.

Seven minutes later Jake Lee broke through the defence to cross for a try, again converted by Hallett.

Shortly before the interval Rumney reduced the arrears courtesy of a try by scrum half Mullins, although the conversion attempt fell short.

Six minutes after the restart Bedwas notched up the crucial bonus point try thanks to a Tristan Kugler five pointer. The conversion went wide.

Bedwas made numerous changes and extended their lead after 23 minutes this time outside centre Rhys Peters diving in for a try. Replacement Jac Crompton (making his debut on permit from Taffs Well RFC) missed the conversion.

A few minutes later Rumney added their second try of the afternoon courtesy of prop forward Harvey Blake converted by Connor Nagle.

Bedwas responded with a second try of the afternoon from Arwel Hughes which again went unconverted.

Credi to Rumney who didn’t throw in the towel at any stage of the contest, but the game saw no further scoring by either side.

Today’s Bedwas Man of the Match was awarded to second two Ben Sier.

Next week Bedwas are on the road again with a short trip to Ynysddu RFC, kick off is at the earlier time of 1-30pm.
