For the second successive game Bedwas showed glimpses of the form that gained promotion to the Premiership as Pontypridd were made to work hard to gain the win. Bedwas were not behind until the 70th minute of this game as Pontypridd did just enough to claim the spoils.
Both sides took time to find their rhythm with slippery conditions under foot and a wet ball saw an even open 15 minutes of the game.
Bedwas took the lead after eighteen minutes. Jake Lee kicked a forty-twenty clearance and from the following lineout the Bedwas pack executed a well taken throw catch and drive to earn a try for hooker Arwel Hughes. Jak Crompton added the conversion.
Pontypridd levelled the scores ten minutes later courtesy of prop forward Liam Tobias’s try converted by Tom Morgan.
Bedwas struck back almost immediately as Milo Crompton gathered his own kick through and chase to score a fine try, converted again by Jak Crompton.
Pontypridd came back into the contest after thirty-six minutes via a successful penalty kick by Morgan Jones to see the half time score Pontypridd 10 Bedwas 14.
Seven minutes into the second half and a second Jones penalty put Pontypridd within a single point.
Pontypridd dominated possession but a stuttering line out and attacking errors prevented any further scores.
Midway through the half Bedwas began to use the replacements bench with Arwel Hughes and Jake Lee making way for Rhys Hutcherson and Rhys Peters.
Bedwas made further replacements after twenty-eight minutes as Lewis Stevens, Dale Rogers and Dan Wall replaced Luke Crane, Harvey Jenkins and Gethyn Cannon respectively.
Pontypridd took the lead for the first time in the contest with ten minutes to play as Cai James squeezed through a tight gap in the Bedwas defence to claim a try converted by Logan Jones.
Four minutes later Logan Jones added his second penalty of the afternoon to put his side nine points ahead, and with six minutes left on the clock seemingly take away any hope Bedwas had of gaining a losing bonus point.
However, Bedwas had the last say when with a minute on the clock remaining replacement scrum half took the ball on from a ruck and raced through a static home defence for a try converted by Jak Crompton.
Next week Bedwas are on the road again as the team heads to Newbridge RFC for what is expected to be another tough fixture.
