Weekend round up 15 September 2025.
Bedwas Athletic hosted Blackwood Griffins in a Dragons Athletic League game at the Bridgefield.
The Athletic side were dominant in the first half cantering to a thirty-one points to five lead at the interval thanks to tries by Alex Kawulok (2), Owain Brideaux, Luke Richardson and Morgan Jones and three conversions from Tyler Picton. Blackwood responding with a sole try.
The second half was a different story as indiscipline (a red card for Kawulok for his part in a melee) and two yellow cards allowed Blackwood back into the game. With two minutes to play the visitors found themselves thirty-five points to thirty-one ahead after the Bedwas defence fell apart conceding four tries including a penalty try.
With the clock ticking down Harvey Picton made a break, and his pass found Saul Down to cross under the posts despite protests from the visitors that Picton’s pass was forward. Owen Thomas’s conversion was charged down, but the home side hung on to claim the win.
