Bedwas Barbarians hosted Gwernyfed on Saturday which turned out to be a one-sided affair.

Bedwas took the lead within 3 minutes with a fantastic team try. The ball was won by the forwards with some great interchanges which led to a great break by Tyler Picton. He offloaded to fellow centre, Tom Grainger. Whereby he managed to fend off three players to sprint fifty metres to score a fantastic try which was converted by Owen Thomas.

Gwernyfed returned the compliment by responding with a great forward based try.

This woke Bedwas up and great work by the front row of Ashley Matthews, Jeff Young and Cameron Cross lay a great platform for dominating the scrum.

Flanker, Luke Handley was robbed of a certain try by bad discipline by Gwernyfed which led to a penalty try.

A fantastic performance from in form flanker Lucas Weeks, led to another try from an original lineout which started in the Barbarians half. He smashed through three players to offload to exciting young flanker, Sam Graves which led to another try by Tyler Picton.

Further tries were added by winger Kairun Swattridge, scrum half Gavin Evans, Tyler Picton again, Lucas Weeks and Luke Handley.

The final two tries came from Logan Hughes who sprinted thirty metres up the wing to score a deserved try and Ieuan-Rhys Beale, who returned to Bedwas proving he had ability to carve through the Gwernyfed defence from the halfway line which even the great Shane Williams would have been proud of.

Next match Bedwas travel to leaders, Monmouth Druids on Saturday 9th March in the Dragons League whereby a win will allow the Baa Ba’s to leapfrog them into first position.
