Bedwas RFC 12 Bargoed RFC 26.
WRU Admiral Premiership, Saturday 31 October 2026.

A controversially disallowed try at the end of the game snatched away what could have been a deserved losing bonus point for Bedwas after a tough game. The difference between the sides was Bargoed’s clinical finishing as opposed to Bedwas not finishing what they started. Hopefully, this will improve with experience as the season progresses.
On an overcast mild late October afternoon defences were on top for the first fifteen minutes, but Bargoed pressure told after sixteen minutes as centre Matthew Lewis crossed for a try, converted by outside half Josh Prosser.
Bedwas hit back three minutes later as a flowing move saw the ball end up in the hands of Rhys Peters who dived in at the corner for a try. Richard Powell returning to Bedwas to cover injuries and unavailability saw his conversion attempt drift across the face of the posts.
Bedwas had a healthy amount of possession at this time and when Bargoed were reduced to fourteen men with the sin binning of winger Harvey Bryant for deliberate offside there was the possibility of adding to the score.
However, it was Bargoed who took the chance through outside centre Lewis Bates. Prosser missed his conversion attack and the half time whistle sounded with Bargoed twelve points to five ahead.
Bedwas started the second half brightly, Richard Powell had an opportunity to reduce arrears after five minutes, but his penalty kick went wide.
It was still an even contest with the Bedwas pack well led by Dylan Lawley competing with the visitors’ pack and matching them in the tight and in the loose.
Once again on sixteen minutes Bargoed underlined their ability to finish what they started with a try through hooker Ellis Shipp, converted by Prosser.
Bedwas made multiple changes bringing on fresh legs in a bid to get back into the game.
Despite their best efforts it was Bargoed who extended their lead with their fourth (and bonus point winning) try after twenty-five minutes courtesy of back rower Cameron Regan, converted by Prosser.
With five minutes remaining Bedwas pulled a try back. Aaron Billingham got on the end of a kick through with a very neat kick inside for replacement Morgan Carter to touch down in the corner. Richard Powell converted from the acute angle.
Bedwas tails were up and with time running out sought a try to reduce the deficit to seven points and thus earn a losing bonus point. It looked like they had achieved this objective with the last play of the game only for the referee to not award a try to Luke Crane saying Crane was held up over the line. This was not a popular decision amongst the Bedwas faithful, especially as the referee immediately blew his whistle to end the game.
Bedwas 1st team are out of action until the 21st of November due to the Autumn internationals when Ystrad Rhondda are the opponents at their Gelligaled Park home.
Bedwas RFC would like to thank our neighbours W 2 W Windows for their generosity in sponsoring yesterday’s game.
