Bedwas RFC achieves Plastic Free Status

Bedwas RFC are happy to announce that we have been accredited with Plastic Free Status. We are one of a small number of rugby clubs that have been accredited and this has been awarded by the Surfers Against Sewage in conjunction with Plastic Free Caerphilly.

The main driving force behind these efforts is our Recycling Champion Sara Lewis who works tirelessly to ensure that we meet the criteria for the accreditation and to implement changes within and around the club grounds. Plastic Free Status can be obtained by making simple changes such as changing our coffee cups to bio-degradable Vegware cups, transferred from plastic straws to paper and encourage our supporters on match days to return their plastic cups back to the clubhouse and to take part in the recycling scheme.

The Mini and Juniors already actively take part in the recycling campaign in which Sara takes the lead, in addition a couple of our sponsors also share the Plastic Free Status namely, The 420 Headshop and The Bean House.

We are delighted to receive this accreditation and we thank Sara Lewis for all her efforts. Bedwas RFC will now be looking at further changes within the club that will ensure that we are doing what we can for the environment and for our local community.
