Bedwas RFC re-opens on July 24th

Bedwas RFC to Re-Open on Friday 24 July

Following a meeting of the club management, we are pleased to announce that Bedwas RFC will be re-opening on Friday 24 July, as COVID-19 restrictions continue to be eased by the Welsh Government.

The club will be re-opening its bar only and all rugby facilities at the club remain closed in line with the Welsh Rugby Union’s ‘return to rugby’ policy.

The club will be operating a strict social distancing policy and the club will be open for outdoors seating only. We are working on expanding our outdoor seating capacity to cater for this new way of operating. There will be a signposted one-way system in place for access to purchase drinks and access to the toilets. The club will be implementing a stringent policy of additional cleaning and hygiene and will only be accepting card payments at the bar initially. There will be no minimum card payment amount. There will also be a requirement to ‘sign-in’ when visiting the club.

For July, our opening times and hours will be as follows:

Friday: 5pm-9pm

Saturday: 2pm-9pm

Sunday: 2pm-6pm

Once we reach August – if the Welsh Government is able to ease restrictions in the way that they have indicated that they will – we will look to open indoors (with social distancing) and review these opening hours, including returning to Thursday evening opening.

As COVID-19 restrictions have been eased, we have started to receive enquiries from the public about holding parties/events at the club. At the moment, we cannot take any such bookings but we are extremely grateful for the interest expressed so far. Once we are open and know more about how we will be able to operate in August, we can start taking bookings again. However, for now, we cannot accept any even if they are for some time in the future.

We are also going to open 2020/21 membership when we re-open. Our new membership offer will be launched online shortly as well and we are thankful for all those who have asked about membership, as this income will be vital to support the club as we come out of lockdown with the return of rugby still some way off.

When we do re-open, we will ask for your patience and understanding as we adapt to a new way of working. Our ability to trade under social distancing rules means that we will not be operating as a business at full capacity, but we were keen to re-open to cater for our members and those who have missed the social outlet that the club provides. Your support for the club at this time will be invaluable and we will continue to review how we operate as we move through the coming weeks.

It has been a very difficult year for Bedwas RFC, but this is a very positive development and we hope that it marks the first step on the road to having a busy and thriving club again, providing sporting and social opportunities for the Bedwas community.
