Update (Sat 29 February)

Another Saturday is upon us and once again another fixture has been postponed. We had switched today’s game from home, to away against Trebanos as our field continues to be waterlogged after Storm Dennis. However, in the event, Trebanos along with so many other clubs in Wales now have an unplayable surface. What’s more, the slow progress our pitch was making towards drying out has now been undone, making hosting a game on it next weekend a tall order indeed. We will keep an eye on the situation and update you all accordingly. Despite the persistent rain, the NRW website is showing river levels on the Rhymney falling sharply now, so no danger of a repeat of two weeks ago as it stands.

We are pleased to report that work on repairing the club lounge will be starting in earnest next week. Our core team of club volunteers will begin the process of stripping down the lounge and should they need some helpers, we will be sure to ask. Once that work is done, we can then proceed with repairing the flooring, seating and giving the room a good makeover. Likewise for the men’s bathroom, which, despite never being the most floral part of the club, is in desperate need to refurb with the stench from the flooding hanging in the air.

Many thanks to those who continue to donate to our fundraiser. We have left it up and running at the request of our friends who are abroad, or fundraising themselves at the moment, so that they can continue to place donations in it.

We will of course still be open in the big room today from lunchtime. Despite the loss of local rugby, there is still plenty of sport on TV including pro rugby and football as we have BT Sport and Premier Sports. We need your support more than ever as lost rugby means less footfall.

Thanks once again for your support and we look forward to attending the floods fundraiser at the Workmen’s Hall tomorrow which promises to be a great night! Limited tickets available remain for the evening via the organisers.
